The Brazil and Scotland game was the BEST WC opening game for many years. A lot of shots taken, and quite a few chances created. The score was a fair reflection of performance of two teams. Pele has predicted that this WC will be the best and most exciting in years. He was right for the first game, and hope this trend continues.
This Brazilian team certainly has more class and flair than the '94 team, and is far more entertaining as well. The attack might be a little choked in the first half, but it was far smoother and menancing in the second half after the subsitution of Giovanni with Leonardo. Ronaldo showed some true class today with his defence piercing dribbles, and his distraction of Scot defenders to create room for his teammates. Dunga was an immovable rock in the heart of midfield, and his defence splitting pass to Cafu was mainly responsible for the match-winner. Cafu and Roberto Carlos tormented Scot defence on the wide positions at will. Rivaldo's left foot was ever menancing. Denilson showed some flair after his substitution of Bebeto in the middle of second half too.
In the defence, the triangle of Aldair, Junior Baiano and Cesar Sampaio did a fair job to hold off Scot attacks. But they still have some improvement to do, especially in handling long balls. It seems Brazil still has some problems with a direct team like Scotland. The game with Norway will be another true test for its defence. Let's wait and see..... On the whole, the omen is certainly good.
