Cameroon and Morocco were ROBBED of places in the final sixteen by TERRIBLE refereeing today.
Camerron showed its true colour of the "Indomitable Lions" today by totally outplaying Chile almost from start to finish, despite the fact that they were reduced to ten men when Song was sent off at 52', then further reduced to nine men when Etame was sent off towards the end. Both send-offs were direct results of Salas' fine actings/divings. IMHO, both men's *contacts* with Salas didn't warrant the latter's dramatic reactions, not to mention red cards.
Sierra opened the score for Chile at 21' with a beautifully struck 30-yard free kick, which floated into the net at the upper right corner. Mboma tied the score for Cameroon at 56' with a close-range header. Two minutes later, Mboma out-jumped Fuentes to flick the ball to Oman Biyik, who scored from 15 yards out. But somehow, the referee called a foul on Mboma. A foul that clearly DIDN'T happen!!! Down went the drain the Lions' tremendous efforts and a deserved place in the final sixteen!!!
Morocco was equally impressive today with a convincing 3-0 win over Scotland. Unless the unimagineable happened, its place in the final sixteen should be guaranteed. But Lady Luck seemed to turn her back on Africans today. Norway successfully packed its own half to stifle Brazilian attacks. Brazil completely controlled and dominated the game but failed to penetrate Norwegian defence until 78' when Bebeto headed in a cross from Denilson to make it 1-0. For a moment, this seemed to be the final score. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Flo tied the game at 83' with a close-range shot from a long through ball (surprise???). Then disaster struck at 89' when Junior Baiano was accused of felling a Norwegian, and a penalty was given. But a foul that NEVER was!!! Rekdal calmly converted the penalty. Once again, down went the drain the Morocans' tremendous efforts and a deserved place in the final sixteen. Certainly a DARK day for African football today.
