For the third time in two days, a far better team is eliminated. Today, magnificient Spain is deprived of a place in the final sixteen.
Spain was superb today against Bulgaria. It was solid in defence, well organized in midfield, and fierce in attack. They won every loose ball in midfield, and distributed the ball effectively and efficiently across the field. They penetrated Bulgaria defence at will. Even in the short period when Bulgaria was pushing forward, Spain's counter-attacks were the most efficient that I have seen so far in this WC. The breaks were clean, fast and perfectly executed, Bulgarian defenders could only eat the dust. The scoreline of 6-1 was trully deserved. If they had played like this from the beginning, they could well be at the top of the group.
Even then, Spain should have qualified but for the fact that Nigeria was totally apathetic today against Paraguay. It not only fielded a below-strength team, but also played as if the match was a training session. It is definitely bad for this WC that another negative team squeezes through.
