Brazil again didn't actually play very well in this match.

There may still be some room for improvement, but Brazil did play well in this game. The result could well be 8-1; they looked like they could score at any moment in the second half. Make no mistake, the Chileans were not cowed or dispirited; they still played with full hearts and put up a real fight. Just that the Brazilians had too much of everything for them to handle. They might pass the ball at a slow pace for a while, then all of a sudden, the pace picked up as if a magic button was pushed, and in no time, a scoring chance was created. This is certainly the hallmark of a great football team.

Zamorano was inspiring. I felt inspired watching the man sing his anthem, probably the most usually mundane part of any game. Chile started well pressing forward, but the lack of a coherent midfield basically meant that they gave the ball away much too much.

Credits should be given to the Chileans, especially Zamorano and Salas, for never giving up even when elimination was certain.

Brazils centre backs lofted a lot of clearances early on. It was almost like they were told don't play it among yourselves early in the game.

Cesar Sampaio is now developing an irritating trait of ghosting in to score on set pieces... He did it in the friendly against Germany, with the help of a Scottish player, and today he scored a header on a late run off a well flighted free kick by Dunga. He also scored a first time side footed shot off a deflected Roberto Carlos which featured Bebeto's prime contribution to the game...a deflection off his shin. Bebeto was crap, and Edmundo must have some nasty disease if Zagallo can't put him out there instead of that Bumblebee called Bebeto.

Definitely agree that Bebeto should be replaced, but with Denilson instead of Edmundo. Putting such a rash figure into the team at this critical stage may not be a good idea, though Edmundo may be a better striker. Also, it still puzzles me why Zagallo replaced an injured Romario with a midfielder Emerson rather than a striker.....

The 3rd goal of the first half was a penalty given to Ronaldo after he picked up the ball and ran clear of the defence poked it past the keeper and invited contact. Keeper obliged in time honored fashion and there was contact...and Ronaldo went down.

Why did Ronaldo take the trouble to put on this theatric when he could more easily score? To frame the goalie so that he would be sent off?

Cesar Sampaio needs to be watched. the guy sneaks too many of the same type of goals for it to be some coincidence.

Junior Baiano is still eminently beatable as a defender one on one......

Leonardo had a very good game second half when he actually ran at players, and actually tackled in midfield.

Man of the match for me would be Cesar Sampaio. A lot of hard work..which goes unnoticed...and shared with Zamorano who did a lot of visible hard work..right to the end. A man who plays from his heart.

For me, man of the match was Roberto Carlos, who was a constant threat at the left flank. He not only showed tremendous ball skills, but also lightning speed. He ran as if he wore a rocket booster on his back. Besides, his fierce shots were always menancing. He also displayed solid performance in defence too. In the first half, Salas would have a one-on-one with Taffarel but for his tackling clearance.
